About this Resource
Welcome to the Assessment for Learning in ELAL K–6 video series. This collection of professional learning resources is designed to support educators in using assessment information to inform instruction across the key components of literacy development. The series explores six foundational areas of English Language Arts and Literature: Concepts of Print & Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, Comprehension, and Writing.
Each topic includes a professional learning video and a companion PDF resource that educators can use for reference, planning, and implementation. Together, these resources examine grade-level expectations within Alberta’s K–6 ELAL curriculum, highlight effective assessment practices, and provide practical instructional strategies that can be applied in classrooms immediately.
