About this Resource
Students in ELAL 5 are expected to explore the flash-forward. This is an uncommon literary technique and finding examples of it can be challenging. You may wish to introduce them to the most popular example: the Ghost of Christmas Future in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The final episode of Arthur also shows glimpses into the character’s futures.
This slide deck allows teachers to introduce this literary technique to the students and explain why it might be used. Two excerpts from novels are included to show that flash-forwards can be longer passages, or part of a sentence.
Challenge students to be on the look out for flash-forward and collect examples throughout the school year.
