Get Outside. It’s That Simple.
Spring has arrived, the days are long, and the gym will always be there tomorrow. Alberta’s short warm season is a gift — and Physical Education teachers are perfectly positioned to make the most of it.
Students who move outdoors move more. They explore, they problem-solve, they take up space in ways that four walls simply don’t allow. Tag becomes strategy. A walk becomes a conversation. A hill becomes a challenge worth conquering. The outdoors doesn’t just support physical literacy — it amplifies it.
This spring, challenge yourself to take at least one class outside per week. Start small — a warm-up lap around the school, a game on the field, a cool-down stretch in the sun. You’ll be surprised how quickly students rise to meet an open environment. Outdoor PE isn’t a reward for good weather. It’s good teaching.
