Quick Tip: Reviewing and Approving Resources

June 13, 2022

We are all eager to have access to resources supporting our work in the classroom.  As a new curriculum moves into implementation in some subjects and additional field testing in others, the questions about resources are a concern. The solution, in part, has been shared with all educators in the province.  On April 12, 2022, Alberta Education released a Provincial Resource Review Guide accessible on the Alberta Education Curriculum Website: Curriculum Implementation Information Hub section for School Authorities, School Leaders and Teachers.

The guide outlines how teachers, schools, and school divisions can work through a review process to approve resources for the new curriculum; this process is now the resource approval process in support of all curricula K-12.  ARPDC has created a template for teachers, schools, and divisions to access and modify as you see fit, including a one-page overview of the review process and a template to complete a resource review with page references to the full Provincial Resource Review Guide. Template for Resource Review Process and Word/Google Doc Version.  Please feel free to make a copy to your own Google Drive or download the document.

We have also created a quick checklist which may be utilized as an alternative to the longer word format document as you work through your classroom libraries and grow confident with the expectations of the process.

We emphasize that the same standards apply to provincially authorized resources and teacher, school or school authority “approved”resources.  This process supports collaborative efforts in building and sharing an extensive library of approved/authorized resources at the provincial and local levels.

The team has developed this learning opportunity and related resources at ARPDC.
